about

Majía proudly presents SINTETICLUB, a 6-track EP from Buenos Aires’ EL PLVYBXY dropping on 6/19/2020 on all digital platforms. SINTETICLUB is EL PLVYBXY’s naming of the meeting of syncopated rhythms indigenous to Latin America such as Chacaera and Afro-Candombe, and club beats referencing kuduro, footwork, trance, and beyond.

Gregorio Da Silva a.k.a EL PLVYBXY is a producer and DJ with Argentinian and Brazilian roots. EL PLVYBXY forms part of a new wave of forward-looking Latinx producers intent on creating an inclusive scene & sound. He founded netlabel AGVA in 2016, and has previously released 5-track EP Abya Yala with Majía. Remezcla called El Plyvbxy’s Mineral EP a release “full of horror movie whisper commands, foot stomping industrial, and robotized cathedral bells.”

SINTETICLUB pays homage to EL PLVYBXY’s grandfather Ariel Ramirez, an integral composer of Argentinian folklore and Chacarera alongside his contemporaries and collaborators Mercedes Sosa, Felix Luna, and Domingo Cura, among others. Mercedes Sosa’s historic album Cantata Sudamericana was composed by Ariel Ramirez, and includes the song “Antiguo Dueño de las Flechas,” which resonates deeply with EL PLVYBXY. The song translated a deep linkage with his indigenous ancestors, while also denoting a resonance with Mexican tribal music, which is rooted in 3/4 and 6/4 syncopated rhythms that are the connective threads throughout Latin American music.

By speeding up “Antiguo Dueño de las Flechas” to 140 BPM, EL PLVYBXY summoned what he calls “Guaracha Santiagueña, which he has also translated into mixtape form. EL PLVYBXY continued experimenting with syncopated rhythms specific to indigenous sounds, and developed meeting points with club beats referencing kuduro, footwork, and techno, synthesized into club-ready tools, dubbed SINTETICLUB.

“Insomniaa” is a guaracha-tech soundtrack for endless nights, beckoning in the phase of the night that begins once leaving the club, watching the city pass by your window on the way home. “Rukutu” features original vocal samples from EL PLVYBXY, and roots in Afro-Candombe rhythms to highlight the eternal connection between Latin America and Africa in the form of Latin Kuduro. “Vigilia” (“Vigil”), meeting at the intersection of folklore, guarachero, ad progressive trance, invites a deep meditative state, welcoming in space to manifest visions of protest and revolution.

“Acaro” (“Mite”) was composed in Córdoba, inspired by a visit to the Río Calabalumba and Cerro Uritorco, sites known for heightened atmospheric energy. While internalizing the sound of the chicharra (cicada), EL PLVYBXY envisioned it melding with fodencia and arrocha percussion of Afro-Brazilian tradition, footwork, and the pace of 160 bpm polyrhythms grounded in indigenous cultures. “Consagración” (“Consecration”) is EL PLVYBXY’s take on cumbia clubera, compounding cumbia, murga, and reggaetón signals. “Sucio Sussoro” (“Dirty Whisper”) returns to Afro-Candombe influences to form an alliance with UK garage and hard drums, inspired by the research and rhythmic expertise of Pobvio, Lechuga Zafiro, and the Salviatek crew.

EL PLVYBXY recorded SINTETICLUB in Buenos Aires incorporating live djembe, bombo leguero, and vocal sessions with digital compositions, and the album was mastered by Sky Parnes in Buenos Aires. The artwork was designed by Elias Musiak (HI,humanity).
